Modeling of Cerebral Blood Flow Autoregulation Using Mathematical Control Theory

نویسندگان

چکیده

A mathematical model of cerebral blood flow in the form a dynamical system is studied. The autoregulation modeling problem treated as nonlinear control and potential applicability theory techniques are analyzed this respect. It shown that hemodynamics question differentially flat. Then, integrator backstepping approach combined with barrier Lyapunov functions applied to construct laws recover performance healthy human. Simulation results confirm good flexibility suggested design. conducted research should enrich our understanding mathematics behind mechanisms medical treatments compensate for impaired autoregulation, e.g., preterm infants.

Autoregulation of Cerebral Blood Flow

Autoregulation of cerebral blood flow (constant perfusion despite variations in blood pressure) was studied in 15 control subjects and in 24 patients with cerebral vascular lesions. Thirteen patients were studied within the first 2 days of an episode of cerebral ischemia ("acute" group); 11 were studied from 15 days to several months after an ischemic episode ("chronic" group). Measurements of ...

Mathematical considerations for modeling cerebral blood flow autoregulation to systemic arterial pressure.

The shape of the autoregulation curve for cerebral blood flow (CBF) vs. pressure is depicted in a variety of ways to fit experimentally derived data. However, there is no general empirical description to reproduce CBF changes resulting from systemic arterial pressure variations that is consistent with the reported data. We analyzed previously reported experimental data used to construct autoreg...

In vivo cerebral blood flow autoregulation studies using rheoencephalography

Acute management of patients with traumatic brain/blast injury is a challenge. To minimize secondary injury and improve outcome, it is critical to detect neurological deterioration early, when it is potentially reversible. One potential monitoring method is cerebral electrical impedance (rheoencephalography-REG) because of its non-invasiveness and good time resolution. Reported here are the res...

Modelling cerebral blood flow autoregulation in humans

Better understanding of the determinants of cerebral blood flow (CBF) and the interpretation of clinical measurements can benefit from quantitative modelling of CBF regulatory mechanisms and their interaction with other haemodynamic variables such as intracranial pressure and blood gases. Mathematical models have been able to reproduce many known phenomena and to extract relevant parameters for...

Cerebral blood flow autoregulation in the rat.

Cerebral blood flow autoregulation (CBFA) to changes in perfusion pressure has not been previously reported in the rat. A modification of the Kety and Schmidt technique employing 133Xenon was used to measure cerebral blood flow (CBF) in paralyzed adult Sprague Dawley rats passively ventilated with 70% nitrous oxide and 30% oxygen. At a mean arterial blood pressure (MABP) of 121 +/- 19 mm Hg, an...
